The Artists:
Photay: Photay is the production moniker of Evan Shornstein — a Hudson Valley-raised, Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist and composer whose music defies easy categorisation. From electronic and experimental to diaspora folk-jazz and dance floor-ready house, what ties it all together is a shared sonic warmth and a dazzling, immersive sound that moves people — physically, spiritually, emotionally. He has collaborated with new age giants Laraaji and Carlos Niño, and his records are mastered by engineers trusted by dance music’s most celebrated names. Outdoor music under the spell of the elements.
Resavoir: Resavoir is the project of Chicago-based musician, composer and producer Will Miller — a jazz trumpeter by training whose cinematic soul-jazz sound sits at the intersection of hip-hop, jazz and electronic music. He has played on recordings by Chance The Rapper, Mac Miller and SZA, whose album SOS spent ten weeks at number one on the Billboard 200. Resavoir’s debut album received an 8.2 from Pitchfork and their London debut was part of the first Boiler Room Festival. Most recently Miller presented Orchestra Resavoir — an 18-piece philharmonic performance — at Chicago’s prestigious Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.
Gregory Uhlmann: Gregory Uhlmann is a Chicago-born, Los Angeles-based guitarist, composer and producer whose otherworldly guitar tones and syncopated style are immediately recognisable across a vast array of collaborations. A regular member of Perfume Genius and Hand Habits, he has also contributed to the LA trance-jazz improvisation of SML and the progressive electro-acoustic chamber music of his trio with Josh Johnson and Sam Wilkes. His latest solo album Extra Stars — released on International Anthem — establishes him as one of the most exciting emergent voices in modern music.
About the Series:
Each month we gather under a different phase of the moon to experience live jazz that moves beyond tradition. Exploratory. Intimate. Underground. Lunar Frequencies brings together artists from LA, New York and the Coachella Valley — rooted in the desert, reaching beyond it.
